ABOUT ME
I am a Dominican-American writer, meaning maker, eternal student of life and love, teacher and preacher of all things Spirit-related. I am also a yoga and meditation teacher affiliated with Applied Psychology for Yogi's, a facilitator and educator, and a psycho-spiritual counselor and guide with a special focus on shadow work and integration.
I have always been "a believer" but my spiritual initiation really happened when I deepened my decades long yoga practice through Conquering Lion Yoga's teacher training in 2013. The experience, which was rich and profoundly synchronous, opened and expanded my consciousness allowing me to fully integrate various spiritual disciplines and belief systems in a way that was and continues to be both empowering and liberating.
Since then I have been in a messy, but committed relationship with Spirit that has included indigenous shamanic practices and wisdom, Christ consciousness, sacred divine feminine, plant medicine journeying, eco-spirituality, creative release, and somatic and embodiment practices. This eclectic exploration of divinity in all forms led me to the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) where I completed my Masters in East/West Psychology with a special certification in Spiritual Counseling in 2022 and am currently pursuing my PhD.
YOGA. MEDITATION. REIKI. BIRTH. TRANSFORMATION. PSYCHO-SPIRITUAL COUNSELING.
I took my first yoga class in the mid 90’s and it was love at first Savasana. That day, yoga planted a tiny seed that developed deeper roots, slowly but steadily blooming over 20 years of practice exploring various styles including Anusara, Iyengar, Vinyasa, Ashtanga and Kundalini.
I believe in a dedicated asana and meditation practice and that yoga is a gateway to explore the wholeness and integration of mind, body and heart through acceptance and deep compassion. This practice has been the foundation for my continued healing and transformation and a great source of freedom, peace and joy in my life. I share it with others from this place of service.
I've taught at studios throughout NYC including, Upper West Side Yoga, Devi Yoga Studio in Williamsburg, Bread and Yoga and Mind Body Soul Yoga in upper Manhattan, Lila Yoga and Wellness on the Bowery and more recently in Westchester at Tovami Yoga, and Radiate Yoga.
A pioneer in the "Yoga en Espanol" movement, I taught bilingual and Spanish yoga at Community Health Networks of NY in the South Bronx as well as for various non-profits and community organizations throughout NYC including in my own native neighborhood of Washington Heights including at the YWHA where I taught Seniors from the community. I also taught bilingual yoga and meditation at the first Soulfest NYC yoga festival in Harlem in 2017 and again in 2022. You can also find some free Spanish content via my Projecto Prana classes on IG (@projectoprana).
As a hollistic doula (non-practicing), I spent two years working in birth and serving women exclusively as the former Program Director at Prana Prenatal Yoga, where I taught pre-and post natal yoga classes and labor and birth workshops and was a certified hollistic doula. This work was transformational and energetically intense, opening my awareness to the portals of the mysteries of birth (and consequently death).
I have also served as a Reiki 2 practitioner working with clients with health issues ranging from infertility to cancer and believe in the healing power of energy work and witnessing and holding space for our shared humanity- both its strength and fragility.
More recently, I have been putting all of these experiences together along with my education in East-West Psychology, to support folx via Psycho-Spiritual Counseling sessions. I am honored to be able to witness with compassion and wonder the lives of the beautiful beings who trust me with their transitions and their quest for meaning. From my own ongoing processes and self-exploration, I have a special interest in working with those who are ready to do shadow work as a doorway to greater freedom and joy. Shadow work can be lonely and confusing work and my aim is to walk with those that are in it and offer them the company, love and grace needed to go to those places that are scary and uncertain.
OFF THE MAT AND THE CLOCK
I am a firm believer that living life to the fullest-here on this earthly plain, in this body, in this moment and in this lifetime- is an essential part of spiritual practice. As such, off the mat and the clock, you'll find me writing, reading, praying, listening, dancing, working out, traveling, taking long walks, rooting the home team at baseball games (though I am a life-long Yankees fan!) connecting with the land, laughing with friends and family, and sometimes obsessively watching The Dodo or Golden Girls re-runs while eating popcorn and ice cream (in that order).
Because the world is both a gorgeous and painful place, I am also in a constant, messy, evolutionary process of questioning and exploring what it means to be an activist, or simply someone who cares about collective shadow, and how we hold and live through the beauty and brutality of existence. I don't have an answer yet but I continue to strive and currently am of the mind and heart that it is about inner transformation, which is not a final destination but a continual refining and aspiring of our own individuation and becoming. I trust wholeheartedly that this work is how the world can and will change.
